What I think of Bulletstorm

After the surprise delight of Vanquish I didn’t think I could be surprised by a game quite so soon again, especially one that had recently been deemed as one that didn’t make any money by the makers.

Now this is shame as Bulletstorm is actually a pretty good game, yes its constant foul language is a bit over the top but some of the lines in it are more funny than anything else.  The whole ‘kill with skill’ tag line does what it says on the box, the more creative you get with kills the more points you earn which can be used to upgrade and restock your weapons.  The problem with this system is you run out of things to spend the points on if you do fairly well, it would of been nice to have some more upgrades to aim for.

Underneath all of this though is a solid shooter with a fairly standard fps story of killing and betrayal.  The weapons are all great and pack a punch, something you would expect from People Can Fly at the very least.  Killing enemies in a game that allows you to kick, leash, and turn them into bombs (one of my favourite methods of killing was wrapping an explosive chain around an enemy and kicking them pack into the pack to detonate them) keeps the game flowing nicely and you are always looking for some new way to use the environment to kill things. If you play this like a normal shooter I can see why you might get bored with it, a little imagination goes a long way in Bulletstorm!

If you can pick Bulletstorm up for a decent price its well worth a play, providing you don’t take it to seriously. The single player campaign isn’t the longest, I probably finished it in about 7 hours in total. Not that I am complaining as Deus Ex: Human Revolution is out tomorrow so this will be taking up my game time for a while, thoughts on that will be posted once I have started playing.
